Have you tried the patchwork generator over at the Victoria and Albert Museum website? I've known about it for a while, but I was always trying to use images of actual people and was really unsatisfied with how unrealistic the result was.
Well today it dawned on me that the patchwork Canadian flag quilt that I want to do would be the perfect project for trying out the patchwork generator!
What do you think? I always see Amercians making all kinds of quilts for the 4th of July. Maybe this is my year to make a Canada Day quilt?
I'll probably simplify it and only do the maple leaf as patchwork. Oh how I wish I had a bunch of red scraps to do this as a scrapy quilt! Hmmm...maybe I go rerun it with just the maple leaf. If anyone wants a copy of the pdf that they generate, let me know and I'll email it to you.
Edited to add:
Looks like this is my WIP post for this week. Check out what everyone is doing here:

That would look GREAT in patchwork/mismatched reds! And maybe the whites could be a variety of whites and vintage off-whites. Wow. You'd have the best picnic blanket on the beach! ;)

Hi there, that's an interesting gizmo that will come up with a patchwork plan.. it sort of looks like a cross-stitch.
This is awesome! My FIL is a Canadian and we've been trying to decide how to do a quilt for him to celebrate his heritage! Awesome inspiration...can't wait to see how it all plays out!
never heard of that ....but will have to check it out. good luck with the flag...would love to see it finishedl
Thanks for sharing I will have to check it out. :)
What a neat idea , must check out that site and good luck with the flag , I agree a scrappy mapleleaf would work really well. Maybe you could trade with some quilty friends.
What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
I haven't seen the patchwork generator before. I have a feeling that's going to be life changing. ;)
Okay that is SERIOUSLY a cool tool; thanks for posting that link.
Great idea for the Canada Day Quilt! Woot woot!
Looks like a wonderful tool, similar to the program I have for creating a cross-stitch design. But when I tried it, apparently I broke it! Just kidding - it didn't work, but I'll go back and check it out another time. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting that link - will definitely have to check it out. Love the Canada Day quilt idea.
